Artist’s Statement
My work describes the physical world, expresses our connection to it, and explores the question “How do we know where we are?”
I work slowly, in a limited palette, and use oils, acrylics, and a variety of drawing materials.
All of my work is done in series through which I hope to communicate the complexity, strangeness, and beauty of the physical world.
Bio
I grew up on the ocean north of Boston, and as a young adult worked as a contemporary dancer in New York. After a career of more than twenty years I left the ever-outward facing world of performance art, and turned to drawing and painting. Dancing left me with a lasting connection to rhythm, pattern, and the structure of space– how we embody, navigate, and distort or modify it. This connection to the physical world, and the questions raised by it, underlie my current practice.
