About

Artist’s Statement

My work describes the physical world, expresses our connection to it, and explores the following questions:

How do we know where we are?

Are background and foreground woven together like a textile, or, like paper, a random assemblage of adjacent strands?

How do background and foreground depend on each other, and sometimes change roles?

Bio

I grew up on the ocean north of Boston, and as a young adult worked as a contemporary dancer in New York. After a career of more than twenty years I retreated from the ever-outward facing nature of performance art, and turned to drawing and painting. Dancing left me with a lasting connection to the structure of space– how we embody, navigate, and distort or modify it. This connection to the physical world, and the questions raised by it, have carried into my visual art practice.
