The drive to experience belonging is deeply seated in human psychology. What role could movement through space play in the development of this experience? Is there a relationship between navigation and identity? Are who I am, where I go, and how I get there interconnected, a woven fabric?
In the field of dance, meaning is made by intentional, often repetitive, travel through space, and sometimes by remaining anchored over time in a particular location. If identity were secured through the repetition of experiences, what role could mapping those experiences play in the expression of belonging?
Is the drive to belong not only deeply rooted in humans, but deeply routed as well?
What happens to our sense of belonging when subjective mapping is disrupted or destroyed? Do we then feel “lost”?
So many questions.
